Final Still Life
Here is my final still life drawing. I really struggled with this one because everything is so TINY and my hand shakes a little. I messed up the flowers so badly with the mono eraser that I just kind of came up with my own design because I wanted to go on to the rest of the project to see if I could do the other steps 😝. I ended up enjoying the learning process anyway. Still struggling the most with the mono eraser. Was looking ahead to the next video and it says to use the mono eraser with a “sharp tip” for the water droplets…This is not just cutting it off flat and using the edge, is it? Am wondering if I missed something along the way. Does anyone know how to make the tip sharp?

Nou Debra dit ziet er toch héél goed uit!? Ik zie het probleem niet, en ja het is wel zo, plat afsnijden en de rand gebruiken ook dat heb je goed haha 😁👌

Hi Deb
Don’t beat up on yourself. It is all part of the learning curve. If you don’t get frustrated occasionally, you probably are not learning anything new.
Try building up SOFT layers of graphite with pencil or powder on scrap practice paper. Cut the end of your Mono Zero eraser off flat with a sharp knife. Then practice, practice, practice.
If you have an electric eraser, you can sharpen the eraser to a very sharp point on sand paper. This sharp point is good for very fine details and tiny dots.
Give it a try, it’s fun.😁

Hi Deb !
This is a good job ! I really liked the wooden texture details of the table.. Keep going 🙂1 -
Hey Debra! I actually love that you messed up the flowers and just ran with your own design. That is what drawing should feel like – adapting, playing, making it yours. The piece has real charm because of it, and honestly your flowers look great. Larry is spot on with the mono eraser advice too. Cutting it flat with a sharp craft knife and using the corner is the standard way. For an even sharper point, you can also twist the eraser against fine sandpaper. Some artists use an electric eraser for that too. For water droplets though, a clean flat cut is usually enough. The trick is keeping the eraser clean so it lifts graphite rather than smearing it. Keep trusting your instincts like this – it is the fastest way to grow.
