Hi Debra, not bad at all for a first attempt! Welcome to the community. 😉
Personally, I’d say just keep practicing and work your way through the course. I’m sure Ali will be able to give you much better advice than I can, since I’m still a beginner myself. He’ll definitely be able to point you in the right direction and tell you what to focus on next.

Hi Debs, welcome to AHR Studio Community. Very well done for your first drawing. What will get you where you want to be artistically is practice, practice, practice. It is very important to practice the right way.
Ali has made practicing very fun and rewarding with all of his superb tutorials. Since you are just beginning, I would suggest you start with the “Pencil Drawing Masterclass” tutorials in the Academy. This will build a strong foundation for your artistic progression. My guess is , you will love it.😊

Debra, first of all, don’t be too hard on yourself. 😊
For someone who describes themselves as a beginner, this is actually a very successful glass study. The shape of the glass reads clearly, the water level is believable, and the reflections inside the glass are already creating that transparent effect.
The main thing I’d focus on next time is making the transitions a little smoother, especially in the cast shadow and some of the darker bands inside the glass. Glass often looks more realistic when the values change gradually rather than abruptly.
And honestly, damaged paper happens to all of us at some point. It’s part of the learning process. The important thing is that you finished the drawing and learned from it. Keep going. You’re developing some great observation skills already. And Welcome to the Community 💙1 -
Welcome! 😊 If this is truly a beginner-level drawing, you’re already off to a very strong start. Glass and water are among the most challenging subjects to draw, and you’ve managed to capture both transparency and refraction surprisingly well. I especially like the reflections and distortions inside the glass. As for improvement, I would simply keep practicing value contrast. A few darker darks and brighter highlights would make the glass look even more transparent and three-dimensional. But honestly, you’re already on the right track. And don’t worry too much about the damaged paper, we’ve all been there! 😊 Keep drawing, you’re doing great.
