Greetings Everybody! My graphite powder is not at all staying permanently on the paper after brush application. Everthing is so silky smooth. Feels as if this commercial graphite powder could be an issue because Ali Sir’s video has him scraping his 8B pencil over a scraper and usind the dust with a brush. I finally used my finger to get till here but lots more to put for darker result. I am applying circular motion with very light pressure but not at all close to how his video shows the graphite background. Please let me know the error. In the meanwhile, I have ordered a scraper.

      • Try the flat type makeup brush, like the one in the videos. Also maybe the paper is too smooth and can’t hold much graphite

      • Might be due a low quality paper

        • Little results with poor quality paper and the best results with premium quality paper

Reema, this is a really common frustration and the good news is it’s almost never your technique. The fact that you got a smooth background with your finger already shows you see what’s needed. Once the scraper arrives, you’ll get a much better feel for it.

Here’s the main thing I’d check first: the paper’s tooth. If the paper is too smooth, fine graphite powder just slides around on the surface instead of gripping into it. That’s why it feels silky and won’t go dark. Try a paper with a bit more texture, even mid range paper with some tooth will hold the powder better. And when you apply, don’t just sweep in circles, press the brush down enough that the powder is pushed into the paper, not floated on top.

            Keep going.
