Hi all! I am new to drawing. I used to mess around with painting when I was in school about 16 years ago, but it was never anything good, truly, but i never really drew. I am good with makeup so I think thats why i can sort of blend. Recently I decided to give a go at realism drawing by following some of Ali’s tutorials and found maybe I can be good. Its nice to have something to do besides just being glued to social media. Its also great for mental health which has been hard. I have done the first test drawing. My biggest problem I think is the mono zero eraser and getting the correct proportions. It seems hardto make the marks sometimes. I hope to learn as much from this class as possible to take these skills and draw real life things and not just tutorials.

Hi Michelle, welcome to the AHR Drawing community. Your eye looks very very good.
Like anything, it takes practice to become excellent at anything.
Ali has created outstanding progressive art instructions so you can learn to be an excellent artist. You do have to do the work though.
If you complete all of the exercises in the”Pencil Drawing Masterclass“ you will be amazed at how well you are drawing. Enjoy
PS. The Mono Zero eraser is a great artistic tool. It takes a bit to learn how to use it but when you do, it might be your favorite tool.
Practice using the Mono on scrap paper.

Hi Michelle 😊
First of all, welcome to the community, and thank you for sharing such a thoughtful introduction.
Your story really resonated with me. Art can be incredibly healing, and I’m so happy that drawing is giving you something meaningful and relaxing to focus on. And if this is your first test drawing, you are off to an amazing start. The eye is beautifully done, with excellent contrast, smooth shading, and very well controlled eyelashes. Please don’t worry about the Mono Zero eraser or proportions. These are two of the most common challenges for beginners, and both will become much easier with practice. Think of it like learning to ride a bicycle. At first every movement feels awkward, but eventually your hands begin to work almost automatically. What you said at the end is exactly the goal of this course: to help you understand the principles so you can draw anything you see in real life, not just follow tutorials. You clearly have a natural eye for detail and a strong desire to learn. That combination is incredibly powerful. I’m very excited to be part of your artistic journey, Michelle. Keep practicing, enjoy the process, and most importantly be kind to yourself along the way ❤️5 -

Your eye drawing looks amazing. Well done. I think you do very well moving forward. I too struggle with the mono zero. We’ll learn together here with all the advice from these great fellow artists.
