For a first time taking fur drawing this seriously, this is very impressive 👍
You’ve done a lot of things right here, especially for someone still building confidence.
The fur direction is clear and consistent, which is the hardest part. You didn’t scribble. You followed the form of the head, and that’s why the face already feels solid. The eye placement and expression work well, and the contrast around the eye helps it stand out naturally. The butterfly is a nice touch and adds a calm, storytelling element to the drawing.
Where you can improve next is layer control. In some areas the fur gets dark a bit too quickly. Try starting with very light strokes to map the fur flow, then slowly build mid tones, and save the darkest strands for the final pass. This will give the fur more depth and softness.
Also pay attention to edge variation. Some edges can stay soft and blend into the background, while a few sharp edges near the eye and whiskers will make the drawing feel more realistic.
About the angle, yes, lighting and viewing angle can make a big difference. A slightly angled light source usually helps fur textures read better.
Overall, this shows real effort, patience, and understanding. Keep practicing like this and you’ll see strong improvement very quickly. You’re definitely on the right path 🔥
