Hey Cheryl! Metallic pencils can be frustrating because the pigment sits on top of the paper more than regular colored pencils. They also shift in appearance depending on the light angle, which makes them harder to judge while you work. One thing that helps is to build a regular colored pencil base underneath the metallic layers. That gives you something to push against and keeps the metallic from feeling too flat or patchy.
