New one on right. I’m not sure if it’s much better. I also used a different paper, oil pastel pad. I saw someone said they are good for polychoromos. It does take a lot of layers but also very hard to erase for highlights. I was having issue putting details in (water droplets and highlights). I also did use a blender color pencil which makes it look more blended but then also make it quite a lot more “waxy” and hard to put a smooth layer on top (black in this case)

      • Hi Cheryl

Your new cherry looks more vibrant and the colors are blended better.😊

        • @larry Definitely looks more vibrant. I’m tempted to go back to the old paper and use the blender pencil…
Actually this time I also added another darker red layer, which was “optional” in the video

Hey Cheryl! The oil pastel pad is giving you richer color because the tooth grabs more pigment, but you have found the trade-off. It is thirsty paper, so it eats layers and does not like giving them back. For highlights, try a sticky tack or kneaded eraser gently rolled over the surface instead of a vinyl eraser. It lifts better from textured paper. And yeah, the waxy buildup from blender pencils is a real problem on any paper. You might prefer a colorless blender with less binder, or just blend with light pressure using your lightest color in each area. Going back to your old paper is totally fine too. The best paper is the one that lets you work the way you like.
