Completed Final Still Life Drawing
From the pencil course. I wanted to make some places darker but can’t seem to be possible. Maybe it’s the paper, it’s a bit grainy. I think there are a lot of room for improvements, but I’m quite happy with the result for my skill level.
I’m not sure if I will work on the next (final portrait drawing) as I don’t have the right paper. The recommended paper is quite expensive here where I am.Martin, v and 16 others11 Comments-

@cheryl I love your drawing. You’re right it is something that is sometimes overlooked, the cost of drawig materials. Pencils, drawing paper, stumps, blenders, erasers,….. They aren’t cheap neither in my country and if you want branded ones you have to pay for it. I can”t always afford it to be honnest being on dissability income. But nevertheless your drawing is stunning. 😍

@pacific8118 thanks! Yeah so true. I didn’t think this would become an expensive hobby but I keep buying stuff. I get cheap erasers and blending stumps from aliexpress they seem to be pretty good. But for pencils they are not true to grade so I have to go with branded pencils, but they are not too bad in price and they last a long time. Paper is so expensive here though.
I have some 110lb cardstock paper I bought for my printer long time ago I wonder how that will go with graphite pencil 🤔

@cheryl As far is I could read about it : 110lb Cover (~300 GSM): This is true artist-grade thickness, similar to standard Bristol board. It is rigid, highly durable, and ideal for finished, professional graphite commissions with a Smooth / Plate Finish surface texture with is best for Photorealism, sharp mechanical pencil fine lines, smooth skin gradients, and effortless blending with blending stumps.. My two cents based on some research. 😉

@pacific8118 thanks! I’ll definitely try it for my next proper drawing, since I have a lot lying around…. It was too thick for my printer. I didn’t think about it till this morning.

Hi Cheryl, your drawing is very very good. I do believe stronger values in contrast would really make your drawing stand out and shine.👍

Cheryl, I think you’re being a little harder on yourself than this drawing deserves. 😊
This is a very challenging still life because every object brings a different texture and set of problems to solve. Looking at the finished piece, I can clearly see the progress you’ve made throughout the course. The guitar, vase, flowers, butterfly, fruit, and wooden table all read well and feel like they belong together.
As for the darker values, yes, the paper may be playing a role, but don’t let that stop you from moving on. The goal of this project was never perfection. It was to develop the skills needed for more advanced drawings, and you’ve absolutely done that. Personally, I would encourage you to tackle the portrait project anyway. The perfect paper can help, but it won’t teach you nearly as much as actually drawing the portrait will.1-
@alihaiderrehman Thanks! I’ve made a start on the portrait yesterday. Hopefully I can show everyone in a week or two. 😀
