• This is my time post here, i have not drawn for over 15 years so very rusty. My recent projects lacked depth in values, so here i have tried to push the values a little more. Im not sure if i have over done it though. Also when i start to add skin pours and highlights it makes the image very messy ans dirty looking. So i have smoothed over the details about 6x 🫣😅 any advice would be appreciated, im thinking it might be a lost cause

      • Nee hoor Daniel, geen verloren zaak, ik zou zeggen ga zo door en maak het af!

        • Hi Daniel, welcome to AHR Studios Community. I think your drawing is done very well. It seems like you are missing some basic technics to achieve the results you are looking for.

It might pay for you to take a look at the Pencil Drawing Masterclass. It is chucked full of artistic info on how to draw hyper realistic drawings.

If you really want to learn how to make fantastic drawings, I would suggest you start at the beginning of the course and master each section to your satisfaction. You will end up with some art work that is very admirable and you will be proud of.

Each section of the course builds a strong foundation for the next one. If you decide to skip around on the sections, you will undoubtedly get frustrated because you missed some very important info, which is needed for the section you are now working on.

          Have fun 👍

Hey Daniel! A lost cause? After 15 years away and you pull this off? averydallas17 nailed it, this is gorgeous. The fact that you are even thinking about values puts you miles ahead of where most people restart.

Here is the thing about pores and highlights. They are the dessert, not the main course. You are serving them in the appetizer round and wondering why the meal feels weird. Pores go in last, and even then they are just a few scattered dots in the midtones, not a full body suit. For highlights, stop drawing white on top. Lift graphite out with a kneaded eraser instead. Think of it as sculpting light with subtraction, not addition.

And yeah, smoothing six times means the paper is exhausted. It is basically saying “please, I beg you, no more.” The graphite is embedded, the surface is saturated, and everything you add now just turns into that muddy look you mentioned.

So here is my prescription. Lift a few key highlights with your kneaded eraser. Sign your name. Pour a drink. Start the next one. That drawing already taught you everything it can. The next one is where the magic happens.

            • Excelente! Me encanta tu dibujo Daniel. Gracias por compartirlo, espero verlo de nuevo ya finalizado.
