I m frustrated — I just can’t get shading right. No matter what videos I watch or what technique I try, it always turns out ugly… I draw everything freehand. I’m using Canson XL Bristol 180gsm paper, which was recommended to me by a lady from this community.

If you ask me, I quite liked your style, it has a genre to it. I want to know if you have any reference image?

@NavalHawx Thank you a Lot 🫶 Yes, I have a reference, but sometimes I also change things that I don’t like and add elements of my own.

Hi Hermann, I get how frustrating this stage can feel. Shading is one of those things that refuses to improve overnight, and it’s completely normal to struggle with it in the beginning. The good news is that nothing in your work shows a lack of talent. What you’re missing right now are just the basics of value control and pressure control, and those are skills anyone can build with the right steps.
If you’re drawing everything freehand and jumping straight into complex figures, it will feel overwhelming no matter how good you are. My honest advice is to pause the big drawings for now and restart from the fundamentals. Simple gradient exercises, small shading drills, sphere shading, pressure training, slow layering practice… these basics will change everything for you.
When you rebuild your foundation, shading stops feeling chaotic and starts becoming predictable and enjoyable. Best of luck!1-
@alihaiderrehman Thank you, master. I will take your words to heart and try it the way you explained it. Thank you, and I’m looking forward to more of your learning videos.

Thank you so much Hermann, that really means a lot to me 😊 I’m happy my explanation helped, and I’m sure with a little practice you’ll start seeing the results you want. I’m always here if you need any guidance along the way.
Sending warm regards back to Germany and happy drawing 🎨💙-
