I saw this tutorial and i just had to give it a try. The water on the forehead isnt that bright yet. Should I use a white paint marker or make the forehead darker?

It’s actually looking pretty good so far. The drawing just isn’t fully developed yet, so your eyes are picking up that “off” feeling. Once you darken the surrounding values and finish the skin tones, the water on the forehead will naturally pop more. No need for a white paint marker right now just keep building the tones and it will settle perfectly. Keep going, you’re on the right track! 🎨

@alihaiderrehman thanks but it also feels off because of the colour of the paper. The paper is offwhite/cream(ish) and that doesn’t help. But this paper can handle a lot of layers.
Sadly I have never found paper that has the same qualities and also is pure white.1-

Ahh yes, that makes sense. The slight cream tone of the paper definitely affects how the highlights look, especially with water or shiny areas. Even when the drawing is correct, the paper colour can make things feel a bit “off”.
Pure white papers with the same strength and layering ability are rare, but Bristol Smooth (Strathmore or Fabriano) comes closest. They’re bright white and can take a lot of layers without breaking.
But honestly, the one you’re using is still great. Once you finish building the darker tones, the highlights will sit naturally and the paper colour won’t matter at all. Keep going, you’re doing really well! 🎨😊

Which series of Strathmore Bristol smooth do you mean? I do own the 300-series with that weird texture in the paper. It’s not my favourite.
I started again with the drawing. 🫣 I’m just so annoyed with the cream paper. This time on Strathmore Mixed media – 400 series.
