Hi everyone
A little update from me. Ali already knew about my situation but i dont remember if I told you guys.
Currently I’m in chemotherapy for breastcancer. I still have a long road to go and its hard. Most of the times I’m to tired for drawing. I try to finish up some pieces but the amount of details wear me out.
Today Im doing okay-ish.

Then vs now
Back in 2021 i did my first tutorial from Ali. The Wet Face is from 2021 and the second photo is five years later.
I was tweeking at the drawing this afternoon and then I realised that enough is enough. I hung it proudly at our wall 🥰

Nicole, the difference is real and it clearly shows 😊
What matters most is that you can *see* your own progress and feel proud of it. That awareness and satisfaction is a huge part of growth as an artist. Hanging it on your wall was the perfect decision.
Keep going, keep trusting your journey, and keep enjoying how far you’ve come. This is…

Read more

Happy new year!!
Hi my fellow members,
How are you all doing? Today i choose to work with coloured pencils. I started in a colouring book (the ice cream) with Prisma colours, but men…that paper is way to smooth for Prisma colour. So i was fed up with it and started with the butterfly this one I drew myself and used Polychromos pencils
I wish you all a…

Nice work Nicole. The detail on the butterfly is great. I like the colored reflection of the butterfly.

Haha Nicole, you definitely brought color to our black and white community 😄
The butterfly looks beautiful, and even the ice cream (unfinished or not) already looks amazing. Love the energy great start to the new year! 🎨✨1- View 1 reply

I saw this tutorial and i just had to give it a try. The water on the forehead isnt that bright yet. Should I use a white paint marker or make the forehead darker?
-
It’s actually looking pretty good so far. The drawing just isn’t fully developed yet, so your eyes are picking up that “off” feeling. Once you darken the surrounding values and finish the skin tones, the water on the forehead will naturally pop more. No need for a white paint marker right now just keep building the tones and it will settle… Read more

Which series of Strathmore Bristol smooth do you mean? I do own the 300-series with that weird texture in the paper. It’s not my favourite.
I started again with the drawing. 🫣 I’m just so annoyed with the cream paper. This time on Strathmore Mixed media – 400 series.

Course on Udemy
Hi guys
Currently me and my son arent in good mental health. So I cant draw or work on anything very complicated. To take my mind of things I restarted the Drawing course from @alihaiderrehman on Udemy. Even though I have worked on more complicated pieces re-doing the basics is very relaxing and makes me feel less insecure when my…

Hi Nicole 😊
This honestly makes me so happy to read. The way you’ve turned drawing into something healing and peaceful is exactly what art is meant to be. Revisiting the basics especially perspective can be so grounding. It reminds us how far we’ve come and sharpens everything we do next.
Your drawings look clean and beautifully structured,… Read more

(Water)coloured pencils
The first two flowers are my first pieces with watercolour pencils. Paper: Arches hotpressed.
The second one was my first try on coloured pencils. This was a colouring page. I use these a lot because I want to focus on using colours and dont want to worry about drawing the lines.
I can say that I learned a lot about colour because I swatched a…

These are absolutely beautiful, Nicole! 🌺 The colors are so vibrant, and I love how clean and confident your transitions look especially for your first time using watercolor pencils. It really shows how much patience and study went into understanding the medium. The way you approached color learning through swatching and practice is exactly…

Graphite
Some of my Graphite artwork from this year. The first one is one of Ali’s tutorials. Mediums used: faber castell pitt matt – Watersoluble graphite Faber Castell.
Second one is an enlargement from a tiny piece of the famous picture ‘the boy with the cello’ from 1947.

Both pieces look wonderful, Nicole 👏 The control and tonal balance are beautiful, such a strong emotional capture. And it makes me so happy to see you applying what you learned from the tutorial so thoughtfully. You’re growing beautifully with every drawing 🎨💙
