• Good evening. I am self taught via YouTube. I started sketching 5 years ago but had to take a break after 2 years due to elbow surgery. I am getting back into it and struggling. Why does my iris look so aweful? I had to take a break from it and move on in the tutorial. I cannot get my momo eraser to pick up like Ali does. I have mastered my electric eraser but i think it is still vastly flawed. Any tips? Ali’s is so much more vibrant.

A light touch is indeed required so that you do not damage the paper and its ability to accept more graphite. I had the same problem at first and found the soft brush and especially tissue worked for me. Keep up the good work.

        • Hi Krissy, I know the feeling but starting to get there, Good advice from Gordon, and well done with your drawing

          • Ali

Hey Krissy, I think this feels hard right now because the drawing is still unfinished, and that can really mess with how we see our own work 😊

What you have so far is actually good. If you are feeling low or not motivated enough to continue this piece right now, it is completely okay to start another project and just enjoy that process. When your heart feels ready, come back to this one.
I am sure that once you finish it, you will be surprised and think, “It was not as bad as I thought.” That happens to all of us. Trust yourself and keep going 👍
