A question for the community
I own black and grey multi-drawing papers from Clairefontaine (97372C) 120 GSM , but wanted one day starting a project ( colored pencil one ) on the grey paper but found not a single white pencil to work with that would cover it. I tried normal colored white pencil ( branded one ) , Derwent charcoal pencil and even a Derwent Chinese White 7200. Any hints from somebody. I enclosed the reference image that was drawed on grey paper. I wanted to draw it but no white that standed out as in the reference photo despite my attempts. Anybody any ideas or clues ?

Frederic, I have actually drawn an egg very similar to this one in colored pencil, and you’ll find that tutorial in the Bonus Tutorials section. You can also simply search for “egg” and it should appear. 😊
One thing I noticed is that achieving bright whites on toned paper is much harder than it looks. In many cases, artists build up multiple layers of white pencil, sometimes combined with other opaque media, and often use papers that can accept a large number of layers. It might also be worth experimenting with different white pencils, as some are far more opaque than others. Hopefully some of our colored pencil artists can share their experiences as well.
One tip I can give is to preserve your brightest whites from the very beginning rather than trying to create them later. Also, avoid burnishing the paper too early because once the tooth is filled, it becomes much harder to add more white on top. Building up several light layers of white usually works better than trying to achieve full opacity in a single pass.
Keep experimenting. Toned paper can be challenging at first, but once you find the right combination of paper and white pencil, the results can be amazing. 👍1-
@alihaiderrehman I will try in the near future your tutorial. I really appreciate the time and effort you put on answering my question. Very valuable feedback for me. It’s an awesome community here and the fact that you are taking time to respond to most questions or post’s is a real added value for everyone I guess. By far the most comprehensive and awesome drawing course out there on the Internet. I sincerely hope AHR becomes the standard as to beginning artists. Thank you very much…………

@pacific8118 Thank you so much, Frederic. 😊
Comments like this mean a lot to me. My goal has always been to create the kind of learning environment I wish I had when I was starting out, where artists feel comfortable asking questions, sharing their work, and learning together.
I’m really glad you find value in both the course and the community. The progress you’ve been making and the way you actively participate here are a big part of what makes this community special. Thank you again for your kind words and support. I’m looking forward to seeing your future drawings and your version of the egg tutorial as well.1
