Fixative Spray for pencil drawings ?
Can somebody in the community enlighten me on the best fixative spray for graphite pencil drawings? Thanks in advance for your valuable feedback.

I’m using this now, not sure if its the best but it’s cheap (compared to other fixative) and feels like it would last forever. The shop review is good. But I’m not sure if its available in other countries. It seems to be an Australian brand.

@cheryl Thanks for your valuable feedback. Will try to look for it online or otherwise will go to a art supply shop. The thing I like about a fixative is that it says that it is also good for pencil drawings. That’s why I’m confused.

Hi Frederic
Ali mentioned in a post not to long ago that you could use spray lacquer as a fixative spray which would be less costly than the fixative you would purchase in an art supply store.

I personally use Winsor & Newton Professional Fixative, and I’ve had good results with it. Whatever fixative you choose, the most important thing is to apply 2 to 3 very light coats from about 30 cm (12 inches) away, allowing each coat to dry before applying the next. Heavy coats can darken the graphite and reduce contrast. I’m also interested to hear what others in the community are using!

I’ve tried quite a few options over the years. At first, I used a clear acrylic spray from a hardware store. It worked well for a while, but later it started spitting droplets, which isn’t something you want on a finished drawing. Then I bought a proper artist’s fixative from an art supply store. To be honest, I wasn’t particularly impressed. These days, I mostly use regular hairspray. It works perfectly well for my graphite drawings, it’s inexpensive, and you can buy it almost anywhere.
