I worked on drawing a portrait of my dayghter for many many houres and it just never came together to look like her, so i chalked it up to practice and some time in the future i will give it a try again.

Mean while, i thought there is no way i could mess up the expression on a Sugar Skull, so this is the results.

Larry, first of all, don’t give up on that portrait just yet. Every artist has drawings that refuse to cooperate, especially when we’re trying to capture the likeness of someone we know well. Sometimes stepping away and coming back later is exactly the right move. As for this Sugar Skull piece, I think it turned out wonderfully. The… Read more

Larry, thank you for the kind words. ❤️

To be honest, the real credit goes to all of you. A course can provide the lessons, but it is the students who put in the hours, complete the assignments, share their work, and encourage one another. That’s what turns a course into a true community.

About 5-15-26, Sedith posted an awesome drawing of a well seasoned smoky old lady that she created using her imagination.

Sedith was kind enough to offer her drawing as a reference if I was interested in drawing my version of this smoky rounder.

I was absolutley interested, so here is the result. I certainly learned a lot about subtle little…

              • Larry, I had been waiting so long to finally see what you would create from my drawing and Smoky Memories turned out absolutely stunning. I love the way you shaped the hair: the soft yet powerful waves give the portrait so much life and elegance. The cigarette smoke is especially beautiful, light, delicate, and almost moving through the air.…

I decided to call this old man “Hamilton”.

It was a pleasure to draw this one. I certainly learned a lot from it. Ali does such a good job of displaying his instruction. It is so rewarding to be able to complete these exercises.

                • This is my final portrait of the Pencil drawing Masterclass. I found it to be very challenging and rewarding. My favorite part was the shading, texturing and details of the drawing. That is where real life unfolds and the three dementions are developed.

This has been a very interesting, challenging and rewarding exercise. To say the least I have learned a lot on this one. This is the first drawing that I actually kept track of my time drawing. It took me 30.5 hours to complete. Ali completed the same drawing in 11 hours.

I live in Alabama and there are a lot of old worn out buildings that have long outlasted there usefulness. This Muculler Grocery store is not to far from where i live and when i feel my artistic skills are adiquit i am going to do my best to draw it.

When you look at the details it has a lot of stories to tell.

Larry, this is a great subject choice 👍

You’re right, scenes like this carry a lot of story and character. The textures in the wood, the worn surfaces, and all the small details make it perfect for practice. And honestly, don’t worry about being “qualified” yet. This is exactly the kind of subject that helps you grow. Just break it down into… Read more
