Got a new mixed media pad for drawing but as you can see the microperforation line is on the wrong side 😅 Other than that, I really like this paper ( Canson XL mixed media medium grain 7 x 10 in)

Cheryl, so good to see this one after the flu and the flat patch. You pushed through and finished, and that counts. Those wings are beautiful, the colours are really rich. And the pattern reads so clean, which is not easy with a butterfly. Lovely to see your spark back.

This is my first intermediate level drawing and it took a very long time. But my son loves harry potter and wanted me to draw this 😂
I’ll be going back to finish all the beginners after this
This is A3 size and I didn’t have any A3 paper so I bought the cheapest one I could find in the shop and actually very impressed with it. It’s the…

Cheryl, this is amazing work, especially for your first intermediate drawing! Spending that long on it has clearly paid off, and it’s lovely that your son chose Harry Potter as the subject. I’m also glad the affordable Daler-Rowney paper worked so well for you. Justin, I think LeBron James will be a great future project, and Frenky, I’m… Read more

Does anyone have the same issue since today? The only reaction I can do is “like”, the pop up with different reactions doesn’t show anymore. I have tried 2 different browsers and my phone.

                • Before eye

My son (10) requested to do the same drawing course I did. This is his before eye.
He doesn’t have very good pen/pencil control.
He ripped the paper in the middle drawing too hard.
I’m interested to see his “after eye” if he ever finishes the course.

This is what ChatGPT gave me when I asked how to position a 12×12 grids (size per grid) on a piece of A3 paper to maximize usage for my next drawing. I’m really impressed 😂

Cheryl, that’s brilliant 😂 It’s nice to let ChatGPT handle the calculating while you can spend your time doing the part you actually enjoy, drawing! I hope the grid makes your next project a little easier and that you have fun with it.

                        • Hi Cheryl

Your drawing looks great. Try laying your drawing on the floor near an outside window to photograph. You will get good lighting and it is easy to eliminate shadows.

Cheryl, congratulations on finishing another drawing! The droplet has a beautiful shine, and I can see why the photographed version shows the contrast better. Larry’s suggestion about placing it near an outside window is a good one. It should give you more even light and help avoid the phone shadow. Great work! 👏

                          • Cherry again

New one on right. I’m not sure if it’s much better. I also used a different paper, oil pastel pad. I saw someone said they are good for polychoromos. It does take a lot of layers but also very hard to erase for highlights. I was having issue putting details in (water droplets and highlights). I also did use a blender color pencil which makes…

Hey Cheryl! The oil pastel pad is giving you richer color because the tooth grabs more pigment, but you have found the trade-off. It is thirsty paper, so it eats layers and does not like giving them back. For highlights, try a sticky tack or kneaded eraser gently rolled over the surface instead of a vinyl eraser. It lifts better from… Read more

Hey Cheryl! Metallic pencils can be frustrating because the pigment sits on top of the paper more than regular colored pencils. They also shift in appearance depending on the light angle, which makes them harder to judge while you work. One thing that helps is to build a regular colored pencil base underneath the metallic layers. That gives… Read more
