• Bad news for jackie chan!!!

Any advice on removing masking tape from art work? I de-tact the sticky side before apllying but it still ripped the paper. I started removing it slowly but it just ripped it up……. So then it was ruined so i just pulled it off quickly 😅

      • In one of the video (I don’t remember which one) Ali mentioned make it less sticky by sticky it somewhere repeatedly first, like clothes

        • Sorry about your masking tape dilemma Daniel. You did a great job on drawing Mr. Chan. That has to be disappointing.

If you use drafting tape instead of masking tape that will never happen. Drafting tape is a little more costly, but it is worth it.😏

          • @larry thank you Larry I definitely will look to purchase drafting tape. Yes very disappointing especially when I have a contact with him and he is waiting to sign one of my portraits 🤦‍♂️ I’ll just have to do it again

Daniel, that is such a painful way for a drawing to end, especially when Jackie is waiting for one of your portraits. The portrait itself is really impressive though, so don’t give up on it just yet.

For the torn edge, you might be able to carefully trim away any loose fibres with small scissors, then consider reinforcing the back with archival paper or acid-free tape. If the damage is near the drawing, I’d be cautious about putting any adhesive close to the artwork. Another option could be mounting the portrait on a slightly larger sheet or using a mat to give the edge a cleaner finish. It may be worth testing any repair idea first on a scrap of the same paper.

For the next portrait, drafting tape could be a safer choice. You can also press the tape against clean clothing a few times first, then remove it slowly by pulling it back low and almost parallel to the paper. I hope the next one goes smoothly, and that Jackie gets a beautiful portrait to sign!

          • wow not only a very good drawing but Jacky Chan was going to sign it i have watched a lot of his films when i was younger and training in martial arts always wanted to meet him alas i am now to old to be jumping around like i used to good memory’s though so for your predicament good job on portrait though👏
