      I’m working on a portrait of my son, and I think I’m about halfway through. Right now, it’s still not a drawing I enjoy looking at… at this stage, all I can see are the mistakes and unfinished parts. But every time I work on it, it improves a little, gaining another layer and another detail. I hope that one day I’ll look back at this stage and see how far the portrait has come.

        • @Jit Thank you so much! 😊 The ears definitely got more attention than I originally planned, but I’m glad it paid off. The jacket texture was a lot of fun to work on too.

        • Hi Sedith, very nice progress. I understand your feelings at this stage of the drawing.

          I am currently drawing a portrait of my daughter. What an experience, i have used every eraser in my arsenal and still not satisfied with the results.

          • @larry Thank you! 😊 I know exactly what you mean. Drawing someone we know well can be much harder than drawing a stranger because every tiny feature feels important.

            A portrait of your daughter sounds like a very special project. Looking forward to seeing your finished portrait!

          • @SEDITH What stands out to me most at this stage is how strong the foundation already is. Looking at this stage, I don’t see a portrait struggling with mistakes—And I have to admit, I’m a little jealous of your talent! 😊 The level of observation, patience, and control you’re showing here is impressive, and it’s already shaping up to be a beautiful portrait of your son.
            Keep going—it’s coming together wonderfully. 👏✏️✨👏✏️😊

            • @SEDITH THis was my very first try at a sketchy portrait of my son a while ago before I started AHR. Not your level….😂

              • @pacific8118 I think you’re being far too hard on yourself. What I see here is a solid likeness and, more importantly, a strong understanding of proportions and structure. The eyes are placed well, the glasses sit naturally on the face, and the expression already feels believable. Those aren’t beginner skills. And for what it’s worth, I think your son would recognize himself immediately from this drawing.

              • @Burcik Thank you so much for your kind words. As parents, I think we’re always a little biased when it comes to our children, but you’re absolutely right, love finds its way into every portrait. Sometimes that’s what makes drawing family members so challenging. We know every expression, every little feature, and we want to do them justice. This portrait means a lot to me, so your comment truly touched my heart. Thank you.

              • Als je dit halverwege noemt ben je êcht een perfectionist, het is nu al een prachtige tekening gezien de details in zijn kleding en zoals Ashok al zegt, de oren Whow….en het haar enz enz 😅👍🏼

                • @annejoke Dank je wel! Misschien heb je gelijk wat betreft het perfectionisme. 😅 Als je vele uren aan een tekening werkt, zie je vooral wat er nog verbeterd kan worden en vergeet je soms te kijken naar wat al goed gelukt is.

                • Great job on the hair. Nice texture on the suit jacket!

                    I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised when you compare this stage to the finished piece.❤️

                    • @alihaiderrehman Thank you! That’s one of my favorite parts of the process, sometimes progress is hard to notice day by day, but when you compare the early stages with the final drawing, all those extra hours suddenly make sense.

                        @SEDITH You’re very welcome!
                        That’s one of the most rewarding parts of drawing. Looking back at where you started is often the best reminder of how far you’ve come. Keep it up! 👍
