Harald, this is great progress with the grid drawing technique. I like that you explored both graphite and coloured pencil here. Cheryl is right, the coloured version looks fantastic too. Which version did you enjoy making most?

Does anyone have the same issue since today? The only reaction I can do is “like”, the pop up with different reactions doesn’t show anymore. I have tried 2 different browsers and my phone.

Hi everyone, I am happy to be joining you all. Here is my “pre-instruction” eye drawing. I am a seasoned beginner in my fifties, haha… self and youtube university taught. I didn’t draw as kid or young adult and didn’t know I liked this until my forties… With health issues and such, my progress will be slow, but slow and steady is the best…

Wow the skin especially looks amazing! And I like the lashes. I’ve known some people with lashes like that 😁

Happy with the progress. But next stage is hyper realism 👀🫣😅

This is a great improvement in just 2 months, I wish I will be able to get to this level of drawing 🤞

wow well done you nice picture

Very nice progress. Well done!

Your hard work has paid off! Great progress!
-
Daniel, you’ve made brilliant progress here. Your graphite shading is looking much more controlled, especially in the way you’re building the darker values. As you move toward hyper realism, keep paying close attention to the small transitions between light and shadow. Those subtle changes will make a big difference.

Studio Community 2 months agoSpiderman current project. Any ideas on how to level this up? I need to blur the ear and aide of the hair …… but not sure where else to adjust
-
Very well done Daniel. It will help to darken the background to give the overall drawing more contrast. It will make all of the rest of your drawing stand out more.👍

yes i think Larry is right i also think more skin texture on the face although looks good to me

Wirklich gut gemacht. 👏

Hello Everyone, I’m very new to the group. Glad to be here. I just ordered some Mono Erasers and an Electric Eraser to further enhance this drawing. I’m a beginner in this journey and feel filled to communicate with you guys. Please critique and give feed back if you can.

Welcome to the community Justin. Your eye looks great. That is a very good start. Using your new mono zero eraser on you eye lashes will really bring your eye to life.👍
-
welcome to the community great start Justin

Welcome to the community, Justin! You’ve made a very good start with the eye. When your new erasers arrive, use the Mono Zero to add a few sharp highlights to the eyelashes and the brightest areas of the eye. Those small accents will bring it to life.

Thank you all for the kind words and encouragement. It really means a lot. Greatly appreciated. Thank You!

Nice blending

@alihaiderrehman How can I get my 8B pencil as black as the master’s in all of his videos? My 8B pencil, also from Faber-Castell, is dark, but it looks more dark grey rather than black. Can anyone answer this for me?
Best regards!

I think paper makes a huge difference, and also layering instead of pressing hard which can damage paper tooth

I believe there is only so much you could do with pencils, charcoal is the next game, most of the images we see are online and colour differences makes it appear darker than it actually is. Just my observation, although you could gently keep applying layers and smudge them gently after each layer until you get as close as you could. But that…

I just did the skill test. Drawing the eye. I found that using 2B then layering over that with the 8B made the pupil really dark

Thanks for your comments and tips 💪

For a deeper black with an 8B pencil, I would suggest using a smooth paper that still has enough tooth to hold several layers. Very smooth paper can give you a clean finish, but it may not hold much graphite. A medium-smooth drawing paper is usually a good balance.
Start with a softer, medium-dark pencil such as a 2B or 4B and build the… Read more
