I’ve been at this course forever and haven’t posted in a while, but here’s my before and after eye!
I’ve never drawn before, but I feel like my understanding of the techniques has improved. The first time, I just tried to follow the steps but didn’t know enough to be able to self-correct, so the whole thing went off the rails. 😅 By then, I…

Golly Ekua!
What a difference. You have made great strides in your understanding of drawing technics. Your new eye looks fantastic. 👍👍😊

100% better drawing very good 👏

Ekua, this is more than just a better eye. The first drawing shows you learning the process, but the second shows you beginning to think like an artist. You noticed what was going wrong, made decisions, and stayed with the drawing until it came together. That ability to self-correct will help you far beyond this exercise. I’m really looking… Read more

Rickie, these pears look wonderfully realistic. The soft shadows and gentle colour changes are giving them a lovely round shape. Great work 😊

Studio Community 2 months agothe genie lamp I have trouble blending don’t feel as though it is enough but all in all not to bad lol

Nou Rickie ik vind dat je lamp er heel goed uit ziet hoor! 👍🏼

Very nice Rickie. You might try smoothing the dark areas with a stump or tissue.
1 -
thanks Larry i did use stump and tissue maybe more effort needed lol 👍
-
Rickie, this is looking great! Since you have already tried a stump and tissue, you could build the darker areas up gradually with several light layers. That will give you a smoother blend while keeping the form clear.

Horse crosses the finish line! 🐎
Ok. So I finally committed myself to finishing the horse. My last post was about 4 or 5 months ago Id say, and I nearly gave up.
I can see markings on here that arent right (some shading seems textured on the paper when it should be solid, and some lines arent soft enough, AND the gel pens are scratchy and well dont get me started on that!),…

Ik vind het heel knap gedaan! Jammer ja van de beschadigingen, petje af voor je doorzettingsvermogen !
-
don’t be hard on your self I😃 love it can see the fur and the tackle is fantastic good job you .!!! I think you need to pull tape off at a low angle keeping it close to paper and slowly pull it seems to work for me 👏

Really well drawn Nicole. Your details are great. I can see that you have put many hours into this drawing.
Try using drafting tape instead of masking tape. That will solve the problem of ripping the paper when the tape is removed. It is a bit more costly but it goes a long way and you won’t have to worry about rip and tear anymore.

Nicole, you’ve done such a good job with this horse! Honestly, you should be really proud of yourself. You nearly gave up, but you kept going and finished it, and that is a big achievement.
I can see so much care in the fur and the tack. Don’t be too hard on yourself about the little things you would change. Take what you’ve learned into the… Read more

Martin, this is really impressive! It’s definitely a little unsettling, but that’s exactly why it works so well. You’ve handled the colored-pencil detail and contrast beautifully, and created something that really grabs your attention 😅

Studio Community 2 months agoBad news for jackie chan!!!
Any advice on removing masking tape from art work? I de-tact the sticky side before apllying but it still ripped the paper. I started removing it slowly but it just ripped it up……. So then it was ruined so i just pulled it off quickly 😅
-
In one of the video (I don’t remember which one) Ali mentioned make it less sticky by sticky it somewhere repeatedly first, like clothes
-
Sorry about your masking tape dilemma Daniel. You did a great job on drawing Mr. Chan. That has to be disappointing.
If you use drafting tape instead of masking tape that will never happen. Drafting tape is a little more costly, but it is worth it.😏

Daniel, that is such a painful way for a drawing to end, especially when Jackie is waiting for one of your portraits. The portrait itself is really impressive though, so don’t give up on it just yet.
For the torn edge, you might be able to carefully trim away any loose fibres with small scissors, then consider reinforcing the back with archival… Read more

Hi Biggi
Very well done. Your pop can is excellent.😊

very nice

Birgit, your soda can looks excellent. The curved form reads clearly, and the highlights make it feel metallic. Keep the darkest values in the shadow areas so the reflections stand out even more.

Hi Biggi
Your drawing really looks good so far. I think if you go back to your reference and look for details you might have missed, you can create an excellent result from what you have drawn so far.👍

love the way you framed it in your sketch book looking gooood👏

This is such a lovely attempt! 😊 I really like how you’ve captured the overall composition, especially the transparency of the glass and the way the fish stands out inside it. The delicate lines and shading give the drawing a beautiful, soft feel. And honestly, don’t worry about it being a first attempt you’ve already got a great foundation… Read more
