I’ve finally completed the tutorial and tried my best to recreate it as closely as possible. I hope I’ve been able to achieve at least a little of the look and feel of the original. ✨

Akanksha, congratulations on finishing the tutorial! Every recreation will have its own character, so don’t worry about making it identical. You’ve clearly put a lot of care into this, and it’s wonderful to see you complete it. ✨

Great job! The water looks so realistic. I love how you captured the light and reflections in it.

Hi Deb
Your attempt looks great. Very very nice.

very good deb👍
-
Debra, what a smart way to build your confidence before starting the final portrait. You’ve captured the glass and reflections beautifully. Keep using this same approach of finding the larger light and dark shapes first, then adding the smaller details. You’re more ready than you think. Well done!

This looks really good. You’re ready! The final portrait was easier than I thought. It looks hard but very managable if you follow the videos

Studio Community 2 months agoFinal Still Life
Here is my final still life drawing. I really struggled with this one because everything is so TINY and my hand shakes a little. I messed up the flowers so badly with the mono eraser that I just kind of came up with my own design because I wanted to go on to the rest of the project to see if I could do the other steps 😝. I ended up enjoying…

Nou Debra dit ziet er toch héél goed uit!? Ik zie het probleem niet, en ja het is wel zo, plat afsnijden en de rand gebruiken ook dat heb je goed haha 😁👌

Hi Deb
Don’t beat up on yourself. It is all part of the learning curve. If you don’t get frustrated occasionally, you probably are not learning anything new.
Try building up SOFT layers of graphite with pencil or powder on scrap practice paper. Cut the end of your Mono Zero eraser off flat with a sharp knife. Then practice, practice,…

Hi Deb !
This is a good job ! I really liked the wooden texture details of the table.. Keep going 🙂1 -
Hey Debra! I actually love that you messed up the flowers and just ran with your own design. That is what drawing should feel like – adapting, playing, making it yours. The piece has real charm because of it, and honestly your flowers look great. Larry is spot on with the mono eraser advice too. Cutting it flat with a sharp craft knife and… Read more

Studio Community 2 months agoCherry again
New one on right. I’m not sure if it’s much better. I also used a different paper, oil pastel pad. I saw someone said they are good for polychoromos. It does take a lot of layers but also very hard to erase for highlights. I was having issue putting details in (water droplets and highlights). I also did use a blender color pencil which makes…

Hi Cheryl
Your new cherry looks more vibrant and the colors are blended better.😊

Hey Cheryl! The oil pastel pad is giving you richer color because the tooth grabs more pigment, but you have found the trade-off. It is thirsty paper, so it eats layers and does not like giving them back. For highlights, try a sticky tack or kneaded eraser gently rolled over the surface instead of a vinyl eraser. It lifts better from… Read more

Didn’t really like the result that much but wanted to try the metallic pencils I bought ages ago

I think I didn’t like the paper and pencils.-
I think it looks really cool! Can’t wait to try colors someday.

Very striking Sheryl.

This is awesome!

Hey Cheryl! Metallic pencils can be frustrating because the pigment sits on top of the paper more than regular colored pencils. They also shift in appearance depending on the light angle, which makes them harder to judge while you work. One thing that helps is to build a regular colored pencil base underneath the metallic layers. That gives… Read more

Studio Community 2 months agoThis is my time post here, i have not drawn for over 15 years so very rusty. My recent projects lacked depth in values, so here i have tried to push the values a little more. Im not sure if i have over done it though. Also when i start to add skin pours and highlights it makes the image very messy ans dirty looking. So i have smoothed over…

Nee hoor Daniel, geen verloren zaak, ik zou zeggen ga zo door en maak het af!

Hi Daniel, welcome to AHR Studios Community. I think your drawing is done very well. It seems like you are missing some basic technics to achieve the results you are looking for.
It might pay for you to take a look at the Pencil Drawing Masterclass. It is chucked full of artistic info on how to draw hyper realistic drawings.
If you really want…

Wow! This is absolutely gorgeous!

Hey Daniel! A lost cause? After 15 years away and you pull this off? averydallas17 nailed it, this is gorgeous. The fact that you are even thinking about values puts you miles ahead of where most people restart.
Here is the thing about pores and highlights. They are the dessert, not the main course. You are serving them in the appetizer round… Read more

Blindfolded Woman/Patience!
Drawing the Blindfolded woman has been a real education. This drawing is like the final exam. It is a culmanation of all the skills and technics that i have learned from Ali’s tutorials. I think back to the lessons on how to shade, draw eyes, ears, nose, hair and proportions. It is all in this one, and then some.
Thank you Ali for such a…

Studio Community 2 months agoI thought I’d share my before and after pictures of the eye. The one with the thick squiggly eyelashes was my first one. My hand really shook! Practiced forever on doing eyelashes before the second one…
-
Very nice Debra. This is a great way to develop your drawing skills. Your eye as a whole looks super. I think darkening the upper lashes would make the eye really stand out.👍
-
you can see improvement good job
-
Debra, I love that you posted the before and after together. It is such a great habit. Larry is right about darkening the upper lashes, and the real win here is that you stuck with it – eyelashes are tricky and you clearly put in the work to conquer them.

Duidelijk veel beter nu 👌🏼

Hi Rickie, that makes quite a difference. If you go a step further and show where the light source is located, it will make another strong improvement. Show the sun lit side of the building, the shaded side and the cast shadows. Give your drawing some bold contrast in shading.😊
-
Rickie, this is a big improvement. Now try to make the light source clearer. Choose one direction for the light, keep the sunlit side of the building lighter, deepen the shaded side, and add the cast shadow. That stronger contrast will give the perspective more depth and make the forms feel more solid.

Heel goed Rickie, de banaan lijkt los te komen van het papier 👍🏼
- View 1 reply
-
Rickie, you did a great job with this banana. It really does look like it is lifting away from the paper, as Annemie noticed. The dark underside and softer shading across the middle are giving it a lovely rounded form. Next time, try keeping the outer contour very light until the values are established. That can make the freehand process feel… Read more
