  • Horse crosses the finish line! 🐎

Ok. So I finally committed myself to finishing the horse. My last post was about 4 or 5 months ago Id say, and I nearly gave up.

I can see markings on here that arent right (some shading seems textured on the paper when it should be solid, and some lines arent soft enough, AND the gel pens are scratchy and well dont get me started on that!),…

    • Ik vind het heel knap gedaan! Jammer ja van de beschadigingen, petje af voor je doorzettingsvermogen !

      • don’t be hard on your self I😃 love it can see the fur and the tackle is fantastic good job you .!!! I think you need to pull tape off at a low angle keeping it close to paper and slowly pull it seems to work for me 👏

        • Really well drawn Nicole. Your details are great. I can see that you have put many hours into this drawing.

Try using drafting tape instead of masking tape. That will solve the problem of ripping the paper when the tape is removed. It is a bit more costly but it goes a long way and you won’t have to worry about rip and tear anymore.

Nicole, you’ve done such a good job with this horse! Honestly, you should be really proud of yourself. You nearly gave up, but you kept going and finished it, and that is a big achievement.

I can see so much care in the fur and the tack. Don’t be too hard on yourself about the little things you would change. Take what you’ve learned into the… Read more

        • Horse pic stuck in starting gate...

What do you do when you get a long way into a drawing but feel disheartened because it’s not looking the way you want it to look? Do you persist and keep going, or face facts, give up and move on to something else? I have spent a long time on the horse so far (maybe halfway) and then have walked away from it as the tiny hairs were too…

Your horse is taking shape very well especially the details on the harness. Don’t get discouraged, this is an opportunity for you to spred your wings and develope new artistic technics. I think most artist have experienced this same dilemma.

I have had that happen a few times and when I have erased my mistakes so many times that my…

Nicole, my advice would be to keep going. 😊

What you’re experiencing is incredibly common, especially when you’re working on a piece that matters to you. In fact, many artists reach a stage where they stop seeing the drawing as a whole and only see the flaws.
Looking at your horse, I don’t see a drawing that needs to be abandoned. I see… Read more

                • Whiskers 1 : Me 0

I have just joined and started trying my hand at drawing about 3 months or so ago. I started with the cat and butterfly and enjoyed drawing but the end result is frustrating. I found the eraser lines just werent as sharp as they should be despite sharpening my eraser, and the whiskers…. Well… I’d like to throw out my gel pen all together!

                  • Hi Nicole

Very nice work on your cat and butterfly. I would say every thing about your drawing is awesome with the exception of the whiskers, which is an EZ fix.

The Mono Zero eraser is a great tool. When I first bought one I thought it was a joke and a complete wast of money. Now after learning how to use it, it is one of my favorite…

                    • What great drawing! Good contrast on fur. Eyes look glassy. I too struggle with erasing. Learn from Larry. I will try as well.

                    • Well done….. especially the fur. I think we all need more practice and advice from more advanced artists. But personnaly I found yours a real good and amazing drawing.
