Whiskers 1 : Me 0
I have just joined and started trying my hand at drawing about 3 months or so ago. I started with the cat and butterfly and enjoyed drawing but the end result is frustrating. I found the eraser lines just werent as sharp as they should be despite sharpening my eraser, and the whiskers…. Well… I’d like to throw out my gel pen all together!

Hi Nicole
Very nice work on your cat and butterfly. I would say every thing about your drawing is awesome with the exception of the whiskers, which is an EZ fix.
The Mono Zero eraser is a great tool. When I first bought one I thought it was a joke and a complete wast of money. Now after learning how to use it, it is one of my favorite tools.
My suggestion would be to practice on a blank paper. Lay down a base coat with a 2B pencil and brush it out a bit then brush a little 8B graphite powder over that then dive in with your Mono Zero eraser an watch what it can do.
It won’t take long and you will be proud of every stroke you make.
😊👍

@larry yes thank you, I admit I need lots eraser practice. When you sharpen your mono eraser is it meant to be a quick stroke on sandpaper, or completely clean it and file it? I’m finding I’m chewing away the refills pretty quick! Is that normal?

@nkdickmann Hi Nicole
When cleaning your Mono eraser, just scrub the flat end 2 or 3 times on sand paper or on a piece of masking tape on your drawing board. Then wipe off the edges with your hand, a cloth or a scrubby.
The Mono eraser picks up the graphite on the edges of the eraser as you draw it across your paper. All you need to do is remove the graphite from the eraser and then it is ready to go again.2

@larry thanks for the suggestion, will try it out

@larry I think when I’m not available, Larry becomes your teacher 😄 And honestly, that makes me very happy. This is exactly the kind of supportive community I always hoped to build, where artists help and encourage one another. So keep it up, everyone, and thank you so much Larry for all of your support and helpful feedback. It is truly appreciated ❤️

What great drawing! Good contrast on fur. Eyes look glassy. I too struggle with erasing. Learn from Larry. I will try as well.

@wilsontam30 thank you: its nice to focus on some good things. I think my paper was way too thin as well. I used a 100gsm.
