I am finally done with this A2 drawing. It’s been an awesome experience. I really struggled with this paper as it’s not Bristol and didn’t blend as well, but I managed to get it done.
I’ve only been drawing for about 5 months and this is only my second face ever, and this course has really helped me understand graphite and how to work with it. I started this drawing using the tutorial, but after the hair and part of the forehead, I stopped and just worked from the reference image. I’m glad I did now I feel confident enough to try my own image.
Next one is a 50×65 cm drawing of a horse with my sister’s daughter she loves horses. I’ll post that once it’s done!

Ruan, this is honestly an amazing piece 👏 The level of contrast and the boldness in your values are really impressive, especially in the dark areas and those liquid details, they look very convincing and powerful. The expression also feels very strong and full of emotion, which is not easy to capture, so you’ve done a fantastic job here. And yes, I recently saw the outline of the horse drawing with your sister’s daughter, that is such a beautiful idea and it’s looking really promising already. I’m excited to see how that one turns out too 👍
