Hi Martin 😊Sorry for the late reply, I was a bit busy with my wedding.
This is a really strong piece, the expression and character come through very well. You’ve captured the likeness nicely and the overall structure looks solid. The shadows are well placed and give a good sense of form.
Keep pushing your values a bit more in the darker areas to increase contrast, and this will look even more powerful.

That’s a great point, and you’re not alone in this.
A simple trick. Squint your eyes at the reference and look for the darkest grouped areas. Usually core shadows, overlaps, and tiny accents near highlights.
I’ll definitely consider making a video on this 👍 Keep observing like this, it will get much easier 🙌
