To be honest……….I started the lantern as well. I had a lot of time yesterday and today so I thought that it will keep me going on working on two projects at the same time to not feel bored or disappointed when things go wrong. After those two I will go back to the course and continue where I left it. Two-point perspective drawing. I…

            Frederic, that’s not stubbornness, that’s determination! 😊

I actually like that you’re challenging yourself with different projects. Just remember that learning is not a race. Taking your time with the shading and building layers patiently will teach you far more than rushing to finish.

So as I told earlier I did take on that intermediate difficulty drawing , even as a beginner I gived it a shot. I already did the pencil sketch and did build from there following Ali’s tutorial. A challenge for a novice drawing artist. I also followed @Roland advice as well. So far I got this……..not completely…

Frederic, you should be proud of this progress! 😊 The improvement from the initial sketch to the latest stage is very noticeable. More importantly, you’re doing exactly what artists need to do. Challenging yourself, making mistakes, learning from them, and continuing anyway. Don’t worry about being completely satisfied yet. • This is an exceptionally well-executed drawing. The handling of light and shadow is confident and skillful, while the details – especially the eyelashes, the texture of the skin, and the delicate veins in the eyeball – are remarkably lifelike.
The patience, precision, and advanced use of shading techniques are evident throughout the work. This is… Read more

                • I used one of these blender tools (Amazon) with graphite powder for 2nd background coating on my horse, it worked really well, went on smooth and took me a fraction of the time, in cases any of you want one, try it out, they’re cheap as chips

                • Okay, that took a while, did some small work on the eye and a 2nd background coating, but this is now ready for tomorrow for eraser work, then repeat tonal values & repeat more eraser work. Really enjoying this piece at the moment.

Looking fantastic, Ronald! 😊 The extra work on the eye and background has really paid off. The horse is starting to emerge beautifully from the dark background, and the overall depth is much stronger now.

                      • Horse shading Part3, done a couple more hours, I will add some work to the eye next and then shade the background again before continuing with my eraser work tomorrow and adding hair.

Looking great, Ronald! 😊 The horse is really starting to come to life now. I like how you’re taking your time and building it up in stages rather than rushing to the finish line. This is shaping up to be a beautiful piece!

Looking good, Ronald! 😊It’s definitely starting to take shape now. The background is helping the horse stand out nicely, and I can already see the depth developing in the face and bridle. Take that break. Fresh eyes always help with the next shading session. Looking forward to seeing this beauty finished!

                      • Let me introduce you to an App (Free) called “value Study”, as you can see I have my horse with 6 values, although I wont be using all of them, this App helps me see the values more defined for my work and I think it would be very useful tool for some of you that wish to look at it. The link is below, enjoy.

                      • Watched a good video on erasers yesterday and was so impressed with what he had to say about Blu Tack, that I bought some from Amazon to try it out, could be a game changer, here’s the link, have a look.

I tested all types of erasers – here’s what really works for drawing

                      • Took me all day to lay down this shading with a brush and it’s going to have to be done 2 more times to get it jet black, but that comes later, will be shading the horses head tomorrow if I get time, as the wife always needs something doing, I’ve told her she doesn’t have to remind me every 6 months

The brush shading is looking great already, and I know exactly what you mean about building up those deep blacks. I’ve actually become quite addicted to using a 14B pencil for backgrounds. When a drawing starts… Read more
