  • Lots more shading to be done on this beauty today, but I need a break, it’s starting to take shape.

Looking good, Ronald! 😊It’s definitely starting to take shape now. The background is helping the horse stand out nicely, and I can already see the depth developing in the face and bridle. Take that break. Fresh eyes always help with the next shading session. Looking forward to seeing this beauty finished!

  • Let me introduce you to an App (Free) called “value Study”, as you can see I have my horse with 6 values, although I wont be using all of them, this App helps me see the values more defined for my work and I think it would be very useful tool for some of you that wish to look at it. The link is below, enjoy.

  • Watched a good video on erasers yesterday and was so impressed with what he had to say about Blu Tack, that I bought some from Amazon to try it out, could be a game changer, here’s the link, have a look.

I tested all types of erasers – here’s what really works for drawing

  • Took me all day to lay down this shading with a brush and it’s going to have to be done 2 more times to get it jet black, but that comes later, will be shading the horses head tomorrow if I get time, as the wife always needs something doing, I’ve told her she doesn’t have to remind me every 6 months

    • It already sounds like the horse portrait is getting the full professional treatment. And I had to laugh at the part about your wife. 😂
The brush shading is looking great already, and I know exactly what you mean about building up those deep blacks. I’ve actually become quite addicted to using a 14B pencil for backgrounds. When a drawing starts… Read more

Looking great, Ronald! 😊 That background is already starting to create a nice contrast with the horse, and those extra layers will make the black even richer. Take your time with it. Keep us updated! 👍

        • I’m spending too much time on this, so I’m going to call it done and move onto another project.

@SEDITH Think I’m going to do the horse that you did previously

          • Hi, Ronald, what a difference from the first stage! The adjustments you made have really paid off. The eye looks much more balanced now, and the overall drawing feels richer and more refined. The eyelashes look more natural, and the textures around the eye are much more convincing. It’s always impressive to see how a drawing evolves…

              • Incredible drawing. The eyelashes and eyebrows are very crisp and clean. They stand out extremely well and makes it look so real. Great job on iris and reflection.

I’m actually working on this one too, just a little behind you at the moment. But thanks to your trip and the wedding — which thankfully isn’t yours 😂 — I think I might finish mine before you do. 🤣

                  • Graphite Pencils Tutorial Library, lesson 2 of 102, does anyone have the reference downloads from this lesson, they are not downloading from the material list, some sort of error. I would really appreciate it if someone could upload them here for me. Thanks in advance😀

Hi Ronald, Could you share a screenshot of the error you’re getting when you try to download the references? That will help me identify the problem and see what’s causing it.

                      • Here it is as you can see the download is a web page, when I copy the URL and past it into google, I get an error 404

                      • Project 1 complete, took me about 7 hours, but that’s a lot quicker than I’ve been able to finish my work previously, I’ve been looking for someone that uses this method, and now I’m happy, I hope you all like it.

                        • Beautifully done. 🤩

The fur texture is very well rendered, and the contrast between the soft animal features and the detailed butterfly works wonderfully. The eye and whiskers are especially nicely handled. ⭐

Great practice piece with excellent attention to detail. 👍
