Cheryl, don’t be too hard on yourself. 😊I actually think this turned out really well. The overall shape is accurate, and I can see that you’re starting to understand how to build colors in layers. Blending with colored pencils takes time to master, so what you’re experiencing is completely normal. My biggest suggestion would be to use… Read more

Abbasi, I really like this concept. 😊 The rim lighting creates a beautiful mood, and the silhouette reads very clearly. It’s a strong and eye catching piece. And I think Jason is absolutely right. In this particular style, adding more details would actually take away from the impact. The simplicity is what makes it so powerful. Sometimes…

@Tony maybe the original post page limits the size and resolution of the photos? And when you click on them to zoom in you see them with original resolution. Many sites work that way. So I don’t think you’re crap at taking photos. The only one that can answer this question or limitation is @alihaiderrehman

                    • quick question, does anyone know why the photo you send over of your drawing looks not very good lacking in detail etc. When you click on the drawing and another page comes up it looks like the original photo, more detail and sharper.

hope someone can let me know or if not how to take a better photo

                      • @Tony I got the opposite. Maybe the number of pixels of your camera or light source? Check maybe the settings of your camera and have a look in a photo viewer in full resolution. My two cents. 😉

Hi Anthony! 😊 That’s completely normal, and it’s actually how the community is designed to work. The images everyone uploads are often very large and high resolution. If we displayed every photo in full quality directly on the community page, the website would become much heavier, pages would take much longer to load, and it would use a lot… Read more

                              • My first drawing for a long time now, not too sure about the new pencils.

my shading and mono eraser work still needs to be sorted out, this was drawn freehand and not on the grid method so there are some inaccuracies

Really glad it is finished it seemed to take forever

I’ve been looking at coloured pencils. Will 60 set of polychromos be enough in general? Or should I look at a cheaper range with more colors? There are so many different brands to choose from too.
Or maybe I should buy a small set / single pencil from each brand and see if the price is worth it?

I currently have Marco Raffine which is…

                                          • My two cents @cheryl , you should look for oil based or wax based ones if you want to be able to layer, mixing, blending etc….Myself tried cheap ones but was very disappointed. So I went for Polychromos 36 set. So far so good. I’m doing the avocado 🥑 tutorial drawing and have enough of them to complete it.

Great question, Cheryl! 😊 A set of 60 Polychromos pencils is more than enough for almost every project. I always recommend investing in better quality over a larger number of lower quality pencils. You can always add individual colors later as your collection grows. Your Marco Raffine pencils are a great place to start, so there’s no rush…
