Challenging
I found both these exercises quite challenging but i am continuing to learn. I think the paper quality is causing some of the challenges.

Found some really old black cardboard so decided to try this. I didn’t know normal color pencils work on black paper ! 😂 However, the layering and blending is not great with these pencils.

Very creative Cheryl. Your bubbles look so real and eye catching. Great color blending.🎶

Looks very great. Didn’t know neither that you could use color pencils on black. Tried once on grey and had a hell of a time. So I thought white charcoal is the way to go on black cardboard. Very nice. 👏

Studio Community 3 months agoHi Everyone!
Recently joined the group and wanted to make my first post! These are a few pieces I’ve done following Ali’s tutorials on Patreon. He’s such an amazing teacher and I’ve learned so much from his videos. I love seeing everyone’s drawings in here and how much everyone improves!

Studio Community 3 months agoHellooo!!
Hey artists! I wasn’t completely happy with the woman I drew last time, although I really wanted to thank everyone for all the kind comments. ❤️
Because I wasn’t fully satisfied, I sat down and created another drawing in the same 100 × 70 cm format. This time, I’m genuinely very proud of myself. I worked from a reference photo I found…

Anastasia, this is a great drawing. You have captured a time and place in this weathered old man’s life. The eyes, the wrinkles, the beard, the turbin, the contrasting shading and the background are all excellent and work very well together. 👍😊

Studio Community 3 months agoRealistic glass drawing 5 months ago and Today.
While taking a break from my lantern drawing, I decided to try the glass tutorial again to see how much I’ve improved over the last five months. To be honest, I didn’t spend much time on the glass because I’m a bit short on time right now. The lantern is driving me crazy! I posted a sketch of it a while ago, but I ended up starting from scratch.

Its so encouraging to see the improvement. Although your first attempt didn’t look bad, your recent one looks really real. Makes me hopeful for my own drawing journey as well.

Well done Frederic. This is a great illistration of how drawing an exercise a second time, shows how much your skills have improved. 😊

Studio Community 3 months agoFixative Spray for pencil drawings ?
Can somebody in the community enlighten me on the best fixative spray for graphite pencil drawings? Thanks in advance for your valuable feedback.
-
I’m using this now, not sure if its the best but it’s cheap (compared to other fixative) and feels like it would last forever. The shop review is good. But I’m not sure if its available in other countries. It seems to be an Australian brand.

Hi Frederic
Ali mentioned in a post not to long ago that you could use spray lacquer as a fixative spray which would be less costly than the fixative you would purchase in an art supply store.

I personally use Winsor & Newton Professional Fixative, and I’ve had good results with it. Whatever fixative you choose, the most important thing is to apply 2 to 3 very light coats from about 30 cm (12 inches) away, allowing each coat to dry before applying the next. Heavy coats can darken the graphite and reduce contrast. I’m also… Read more

I’ve tried quite a few options over the years. At first, I used a clear acrylic spray from a hardware store. It worked well for a while, but later it started spitting droplets, which isn’t something you want on a finished drawing. Then I bought a proper artist’s fixative from an art supply store. To be honest, I wasn’t particularly… Read more

Drawing is great. I like the colored flower inside a grayscale drawing.
Nice workspace. I always wonder if it’s better drawing on a easel1- View 1 reply

Geetesh, this turned out beautifully! 😊You did a fantastic job recreating the tutorial. The contrast between the bright sunflower and the dark boot really makes the flower stand out, and your blending looks very smooth. I also like how clean and vibrant the colors are. Excellent work! It’s always rewarding to see students bring the tutorials… Read more
