I did the cat tutorial today. Didnt enjoy it mainly because i dont like cats. Didnt put much effort into it im afraid

For somebody that don’t like cats IMHO you did a very good job especially on the fur. IMHO the eyes lack a little bit of expression. But I like it.

looks real to me nice job

Debra, if this is what happens when you *don’t put much effort into it*, I’d love to see what happens when you do. 😄Honestly, this turned out really well. The fur texture is convincing, the eyes have a nice sparkle, and the dark background helps the cat stand out beautifully. Whether you’re a cat fan or not, you’ve done a great job capturing… Read more

Studio Community 4 months agoHello everyone! The banana is still a work in progress, but I wanted to share the apple before moving on. This took me a couple of hours but i really enjoyed the process and learned alot .

Samar, this is a great study. 😊
The form of the apple reads very clearly, and I can already see you’re paying attention to smooth value transitions rather than outlines. That’s exactly the kind of observation that builds strong realism skills. Keep going with the banana as well. These simple exercises may not look exciting, but they’re… Read more2 -
That apple looks so smooth. Well done!

Studio Community 4 months agoFinished at last
I’ve just completed this portrait.
What took the most time wasn’t the details themselves, but building the subtle value transitions throughout the face. I tried to keep the shifts between light and shadow as soft as possible while using the dark background to create stronger contrast and focus.
The hair texture and the fabric of the jacket were…

Very well drawn Sedith. You have a very handsome son.😊

The texture in that suit👌

Edit, this turned out beautifully.
The soft transitions across the face are exactly what make this portrait feel so convincing. Nothing feels forced, and the dark background does a great job of drawing attention to the expression. The hair and jacket textures are handled with a lot of restraint, which helps keep the focus where it belongs.… Read more1- View 4 replies

Hi everyone, im completely new here and beginner level. Not very well today, but tried to do the glass tutorial. Damaged my paper half way through just to make it even worse. Please tell me how i can improve

Hi Debra, not bad at all for a first attempt! Welcome to the community. 😉
Personally, I’d say just keep practicing and work your way through the course. I’m sure Ali will be able to give you much better advice than I can, since I’m still a beginner myself. He’ll definitely be able to point you in the right direction and tell you what to focus…

Hi Debs, welcome to AHR Studio Community. Very well done for your first drawing. What will get you where you want to be artistically is practice, practice, practice. It is very important to practice the right way.
Ali has made practicing very fun and rewarding with all of his superb tutorials. Since you are just beginning, I would suggest…

Had a lot of fun drawing this one! It wasn’t complicated at all—for a change… 😂It was nice to take a break from more challenging drawings and simply enjoy the process.

I was so afraid to do this because I worried the face wouldn’t look like the reference. It’s not perfect, but I think I did it. Wakanda Forever!

This is an impressive achievement, especially considering you were worried about capturing the likeness. I think you can put those fears to rest—the resemblance is definitely there. No artwork is ever “perfect” in the artist’s eyes, but this is a portrait you can be proud of. You definitely did it.
Wakanda Forever! 👏1 -
This is a bold and ambitious choice for a first celebrity portrait, and you handled it really well. 😊

@annejoke I think this is a beautiful drawing. It has something truly endearing about it. The little mouse’s expression is especially captivating—curious, alert, and full of life. The detailed rendering of the fur and whiskers adds a wonderful sense of realism, while the soft pink background makes the subject stand out beautifully and creates a… Read more

Great job on the different contrasts. Looks real.

Ronald, you’re in the dangerous stage now where the drawing is so close to being finished that every tiny detail starts looking like a major problem. 😄
Honestly, this is looking fantastic. The eyes have a lot of life in them, the nose is beautifully rendered, and the fur is already reading very naturally. Take your time with those final… Read more1- View 1 reply
