Studio Community 4 months agoA question for the community
I own black and grey multi-drawing papers from Clairefontaine (97372C) 120 GSM , but wanted one day starting a project ( colored pencil one ) on the grey paper but found not a single white pencil to work with that would cover it. I tried normal colored white pencil ( branded one ) , Derwent charcoal pencil and even a Derwent Chinese White…

Sometimes I use posca white and acrylic white paint then jelly rolls when I do work on Grey paper

Frederic, I have actually drawn an egg very similar to this one in colored pencil, and you’ll find that tutorial in the Bonus Tutorials section. You can also simply search for “egg” and it should appear. 😊
One thing I noticed is that achieving bright whites on toned paper is much harder than it looks. In many cases, artists build up… Read more

Whats your favourite pencils?
My favourite to use is the mitsubishi hi uni (top right), but my family members like the look of bottom left the most ( derwent academy, I enjoy using them the least)

Some hair nose ear and lips ( exercise 43-47)
Mostly having issues with erasers, can’t seem to erase properly. I’ve tried different erasers but not the actual mono zero (I bought some cheaper versions)

Keep me posted on your Progress with the erasers. I’m also having same problems. I brought 2 mono erase but still not performing as it should.

Yes, please keep us posted as erasers are so important. Tried different brands as well as the genuine Mono’s put never got the same results as Ali does. Think it has also to do with the number of Graphite Layers you’re working on as well as the kind of drawing paper. Txs in advance.

Cheryl, these studies are looking great! 😊
The ear, eye, and hair exercises are all heading in the right direction, and I can already see better control of values and edges compared to some of your earlier work. As for the erasers, don’t be too hard on yourself. The cheaper Mono Zero alternatives often don’t perform nearly as well as… Read more

Studio Community 4 months agoFinished. My Niece named it Peaky Blinders a while ago, so I made it darker than the original to suit the title, but I like it and I already have a buyer. Onwards and upwards, I have a commission to do, of a snake, so that’s next, although the last snake I attempted, well, it wasn’t good. I think and hope I’ve progressed since then.

Ronald, this turned out beautifully. 😊 I remember seeing the earlier stages of this piece, and the difference is remarkable. The patience you put into building the values and refining the details has really paid off. The darker mood suits the subject perfectly and gives it a strong presence.
And the best part? You already have a buyer.… Read more1 -

congrats for completing the course

Ashok, first of all, you’ve made excellent progress from the earlier version. 😊
The improvement in the eyelashes, iris details, and overall eye shape is very noticeable. You should be proud of how far you’ve come. As for getting darker blacks, the secret is usually not a darker pencil but more layers and patience. Try building multiple… Read more

Studio Community 4 months agoHello!! How are u? <3
Hi everyone!
Today I managed to complete another one of Ali’s tutorials! I’m also testing some new pencils that don’t reflect light the way standard graphite pencils do, which really helps when taking photos of the finished drawing.Let me know what you think, and feel free to share your own version of this tutorial in the comments if you’d…

Studio Community 4 months agoMy graphite portrait of Wednesday is finished
I chose this subject because of the character’s calm, reserved nature and her unmistakable gaze. While working on the drawing, I focused especially on the delicate details of the hair, and the subtle tonal transitions. Another study that was both a technical challenge and a pleasure to create.

Very well drawn Sedith, especially the hair and braids. Your contrasts and highlights really bring out the intensity in the overall drawing.😊

Yves, I like where your imagination is going with this. 😊
It feels like you’re combining several exercises into one creative scene, and that’s a great way to move from practice into actual artwork. Keep developing the idea and see where it takes you.
Sometimes the most interesting drawings start with “just an idea.” 👍1 -
