Studio Community 7 months agoI did my best. It’s very hard to capture the details and the correct tones. I drew back and forth using different pencils… I still need to work on my approach.
Best regards,
Martin

Hi Martin
You have a good start. Keep building layer by layer, building strong contrast.👍

Studio Community 7 months agoI can’t make some backgrounds in my drawings as smooth and dark as I’d like. What do you do to achieve a deep, black color?
-
Ik bereik dat het beste door na elke laag goed te borstelen en ga elke keer een tint donkerder eroverheen totdat ik de juiste diepte heb! Duurt wat langer maar heeft wel effect

Hi Mehmet
Try “Primo Elite Grande organic black #500” or “Faber-casteil Polychromos”
Either one will give you the dark dark tones you are looking for.

Hi Mehmet
Check out Derwent pencils on Amazon. I noticed Ali was using a 9B Derwent on the still life guitar exercise and made the drawing very dark and still was able to eraser with the Mono Zero eraser.

Mehmet, great question 👍
Sorry for the late reply.
For deep black backgrounds, it’s all about layering and control. Start with a light base using graphite powder or a soft pencil, then slowly build up layers instead of pressing hard in one go.
Use a brush or tissue to smooth it out, and only at the end go in with a very soft pencil like 6B… Read more

Studio Community 7 months agoVery old grocery store
I live in Alabama and there are a lot of old worn out buildings that have long outlasted there usefulness. This Muculler Grocery store is not to far from where i live and when i feel my artistic skills are adiquit i am going to do my best to draw it.
When you look at the details it has a lot of stories to tell.
If anyone in our artistic…

Hoi Larry, ik zou willen dat ik zo goed was maar helaas, hier ga ik me niet aan wagen!

What a lovely wish, Larry. I hope we can draw someday.😊

Definitely! It seems quite interesting. I think I will try it when I just do my perspective drawing chapters in pencil drawing

Larry, this is a great subject choice 👍
You’re right, scenes like this carry a lot of story and character. The textures in the wood, the worn surfaces, and all the small details make it perfect for practice. And honestly, don’t worry about being “qualified” yet. This is exactly the kind of subject that helps you grow. Just break it down into… Read more

Hello guys , I have a problem figuring out where exactly to place my light, mid, and dark tones when shading. How can I learn this, or how do I identify it correctly?
Right now I’m using pencils ranging from 8B to 14B, but I’m not really getting the results I want. I’d really appreciate any tips.
Thanks in advance!

Hey guys, I’m still having trouble identifying light, mid, and dark tones. What’s the best way to figure them out? And which H and B pencils would you recommend for shading this kind of drawing? I’d appreciate any tips—I’ll show you my final result afterwards.

Very nice Martin
My guess is that Ali will answer all your questions in detail.👍

Wow
This is amazing 🤩

I would use hb, 2b, or a soft and hard use of 4b,6b for skin 8b or charcoal for eyebrow,hb, 4b, 6b for lips, 4b,6b,8b for helmet definitely pressure control plays a big role

4b, 6b and 9b, the last one for the deepter shadow but it is also about layering and the blending/tissue on fingertip. You can bring the light back with erasing.
