"David before Goliath" - My Second Project
I never thought this would be the hardest project I’ve done. My shading skills were really put to the test. I wanted to push the contrast more, but I got too tired making all the dots and black circles. 😅 I’ll just carry the lessons I’ve learned and move forward. 💪

Kim, I think this project taught you exactly what it was supposed to teach. 😊
The values and shading are much stronger than in your earlier work, and the profile reads very well. The curls, facial planes, and subtle transitions show a lot of patience and observation. And yes, those dots can definitely test a person’s determination! 😄 What… Read more- View 1 reply

First ever celebrity portrait
I was so afraid to do this because I worried the face wouldn’t look like the reference. It’s not perfect, but I think I did it. Wakanda Forever!

I think you did an awesome job! This looked like a very challenging drawing with lots of details but I think you accomplished it! Well done.

This is an impressive achievement, especially considering you were worried about capturing the likeness. I think you can put those fears to rest—the resemblance is definitely there. No artwork is ever “perfect” in the artist’s eyes, but this is a portrait you can be proud of. You definitely did it.
Wakanda Forever! 👏1 -
This is a bold and ambitious choice for a first celebrity portrait, and you handled it really well. 😊

Kim, you are absolutely on the right path.
The water droplets are very convincing, and the eyes immediately grab attention. I also like how you’ve pushed the contrast, which gives the portrait a strong sense of depth and drama.
Remember, perfection is not the goal. Progress is. And this piece shows a lot of progress. Keep drawing,… Read more1- View 2 replies

This course is perfect and here's why
Someone once told me not to overcomplicate drawing, and I have always kept that advice in mind. When I enrolled in this course, I expected it to be filled with complicated lessons, but it was not like that at all.
Most of what I learned came from observing how Teacher Ali approached his sketches and from completing the exercises myself. This…

Kim, thank you so much for your kind words. ❤️
Reading this made my day. What makes me happiest is not the drawing itself, but seeing you understand the principles behind it and apply them on your own. That’s the real goal of the course. Your final still life project turned out beautifully. Thank you for trusting me as your teacher. I’m… Read more

Break from Finishing Module 6
Studying textures is a little bit tasking, so I took a break and draw a self portrait reflecting my journey in art. Every crack tells the story of who I was. Every breakthrough reveals who I’m becoming.

The technical skill is impressive, but what makes this piece special is the idea behind it. It feels personal, and emotionally engaging. The concept and execution work beautifully together. Well done. 👏

I absolutely love this! 😍
I’m genuinely blown away by both the technique and the mastery of blending on the drawing. The transitions between light and shadow are incredibly smooth, giving the face a striking three-dimensional quality and a real sense of presence.
What stands out most to me is the concept itself. The cracked surface effect… Read more1 -

All or Nothing: Is This It?
For years, I struggled to find something that truly fulfilled me. I worked as a paralegal VA, a thumbnail editor, and even tried learning programming, but no matter what I did, I always lost interest and felt empty after a while.
Last month, I enrolled my child in a coloring class using ordinary crayons. I tried it myself, and…

Good on you Kim, I’ve always wanted to have the time to draw, having just retired in Feb, I now have that time to hone my skills and by the end of the year I will hold my own classes, set yourself a goal as looking at your image, you certainly have the talent. Pick a niche, like mine will be wild life, I used to do portraits, but I really hated…

Kim, I totally understand how you are feeling. For over 20 years I was a teacher, it wasn’t until this past year I found that I was actually passionate about drawing. I found myself going to bed after 1 am practicing drawing and having so much fun. I go to bed, anticipating my next lesson in the morning. It doesn’t matter what age you find…

Kim, that is an excellent drawing. I’m glad you found something you are excited about! I was always in awe of artists that could draw such realistic pictures with just a pencil. I’m glad to be learning myself and being part of this community that Ali has established.! Hope you will always find joy in art!
