    • I feel that’s the best way to learn! Even if the lesson feels too easy or too difficult there’s nothing to lose by practicing the fundamentals or pushing yourself outside your comfort zone

      • @brederodesabine1_trs yes I am , now I draw every lesson from the course 😆

        • Hi Sabine

That is a great question. If you start at the beginning of the “Pencil Drawing Masterclass, you will learn all the fundamentals to become an excellent artist. The tutorials are designed to build a strong foundation for drawing. Each lesson prepares you for the next lesson.

If you skip around on the lessons, you will find out later on…

Sabine, yes. Draw every lesson if you can, but here is the part that makes it count: do not worry about making it perfect. Worry about noticing. Ask yourself what feels different this time. Is your shading smoother? Are you seeing shapes instead of symbols? That noticing is where the real learning lives.

Ryan and larry already said the good… Read more

          • Two Point Perspective Exercise

            Hello everyone! 👋

This is my first post in the community. I joined the course about three weeks ago, but I haven’t had a chance to introduce myself because I’ve been busy working on my final-year bachelor’s degree project at university.

I wanted to share my recent two-point perspective drawing exercises. I’m still learning and practicing, and…

Hey Sugnay! Welcome to the Studio, and thanks for posting. Three weeks in and already juggling a final-year project I completely get why it took a moment to say hello. No rush, we’re just glad you’re here. These perspective exercises look really solid. The vanishing points are clean and your shading already gives those forms real weight and…

Finally finished this piece! ✏️ Definitely learned a lesson on this one—I accidentally used a 2H pencil for my grid lines, so depending on the angle, you can still see a few faint lines peeking through. Overall, really happy how it came out though!

Hey Frenky this turned out really nice. That teapot has such a solid, feel to it, and your values from light to dark are spot on. The grid did its job and you kept the drawing clean and smooth. Great work, keep them coming! 😊

Welcome to the studio Debra! Great to have you here. I love that you took the plunge while on holiday and with just a B pencil and a plastic eraser too. You’ve already got a lovely feel for the iris structure and those lashes are really delicate. The shading around the eyelid has a nice softness to it. You did really well with limited kit.… Read more

Geetesh, thirty hours is serious time and it absolutely shows in this. What I notice most is that contrast between the quiet graphite face and that bold red cosmos. You let the flower do the talking while the portrait stays soft and observed. Those fine lines and wrinkles have that patient, lived-in quality you only get when you really sit with… Read more

I have already finished this before reading the comments/suggestions on the other thread. I ended up doing multiple layers and it got darker.
Trying with my new Neenah bristol vellum paper. It was very nice to draw on, I love the sound my pencils make when drawing on it but it’s not smooth. Apparently I need more layers according to my…

Looks like you were on a hurry. 🤣. More patience and finishing up with tissue. The containers I bought them on Temu or Ali under cosmetics. No cost at all for dozens of them. Otherwise… Read more

Your leaf and water droplets look absolutely beautiful. Your uneven background tends to compete with the leaf and water droplets And actually seem to diminish their impact.

I have recently been practicing making smooth backgrounds and I am happy with my results.

I take a regular kitchen knife and scoop up a little graphite powder on…

Cheryl! That droplet has a lovely roundness to it, and the leaf sits well in the space. I can see those layers building up. Bristol vellum is a fun paper to try out. You are right that it loves layers, though that slight tooth means it never goes fully smooth. The sound of pencil on paper is half the fun anyway. I love that you already know… Read more

Hi, I’m brushing graphite powder with a 3B pencil like it says in the video, but the color is very light? Why is it? Is it the brush or paper?
The left is a screenshot from the video, which looks much darker

Hi @cheryl , my two cents: I use very soft brushes, sometimes go softer ( higher B ) then suggested , can be the paper grain also and sometimes I even use Charcoal instead. Maybe this helps you in the right direction. Make some tries I would suggest.

It looks like you might need more graphite powder and then lightly brush it in with a lot of patience.

I have been using graphite sticks made by “Pacific Arc”. They come in various shades H and B and are 1/4”x1/4”x2-1/2” in size. I rub them on sand paper to make a powder, then sprinkle the powder on the background area and lightly…

Ali has an excellent tutorial section, building soft evenly textured background on the “Blindfolded Woman portrait”.
It starts at 1 hour, 37 min. and 37 sec. into the tutorial. It is about 15 min. long.
